Nigel Ling has fished since early childhood, maybe too often, or perhaps not often enough. He certainly spends too much time thinking about fishing and occasionally writes about it. After growing weary of coarse fishing he started fly fishing, then sea fishing, and now seeks stillness in all three, especially if the weather is fine. He earns his living in a university mathematics department.
